Taking the Course
After logging in, the participant is automatically directed to his/her personal page. This page displays any messages or information intended for the participant and provides a table of contents for the training course. The course is comprised of 25 brief segments or chapters. The chapters are intended to be viewed sequentially from first to last. The participant's progress is automatically noted on the table of contents so that, at a glance, the participant can tell which chapters have been completed or in progress and what chapter is next. The participant can select the appropriate chapter (that will be the only "link" available) and commence with that segment.
If this is the first time that the participant has logged in, the first segment will be the Welcome and Introduction that provides information on course organization and tips on using the course.
If the participant had logged in previously and had already started the course, he/she will be directed to the next segment in the training sequence. Each segment (chapter) starts with a title page and all pages display the chapter contents, progress monitor, and controls for "playing" the current screen and moving forward or backward within the chapter.

Completion and Certification
At the conclusion of each segment/chapter a transcript is issued that documents that the participant has completed that chapter and is invited to proceed to the next chapter. The segments are kept short and each is devoted to a particular topic and can stand on its own. If a participant logs off before completing a segment, he/she will automatically be directed to that point in the course, after the next log-in, so that progress can be resumed.
Upon completion of all the segments/chapters a final exam is made available to the participant. The final exam is comprised of true/false and multiple choice questions taken from the course material. The exam is immediately graded after the final question is answered. Any incorrect responses are noted and the correct answer is presented and explained. If a passing grade has not been achieved, the participant may retake the exam.
The successful completion of the course and the achievement of a passing grade on the exam results in the award of a CSMT (Certification of Secure Mail Training) noting the participant's name and the date of the achievement. The certification is made available to the participant as a PDF digital file that can be immediately printed. It can also be saved and/or forwarded as desired.
